Community Shares

When looking to moving out of your home office it can often be difficult to justify the added monthly costs of rented space. Sure, shared space comes to mind but will you lose out on privacy? Exclusivity? Focus? Actually, shared workspaces in serviced office centres are becoming pop culture, as their benefits become known: most of which stem from the beauty of community in business.

For a start, working remotely and alone is exactly that: remote and lonely. Moving into a shared space will bring you colleagues and possibly peers. At the very least, building stable working relationships will result in the healthy peer review process for which so many entrepreneurs and self-employed soloists yearn. If you are lucky enough to strike up harmonious partnerships with others in your space, utilising their available talents and intelligence could open up doors. Gleaning welcome bits of advice and information from those outside of your sector could give you the business edge you've been lacking.

Going one step further than this on the ladder of cooperation could mean referrals or even official business partnerships. Why shouldn't the recruitment agency refer their worn-down clients to a friend from the office: the stress management mentor? Or the graphic designer and web developer cast their nets together and reel in twice the number of fish?

Working alongside like-minded people is more likely to increase your focus than distract you. On a fundamental level, to break out of your home space and enter one dedicated to work will do wonders for your mindset. Gone are the groggy mornings where your Shreddies and slippers sneak into the ‘office’ with you, alongside your sleepy mentality. Getting into a fresh routine, continually encouraged by others who are doing the same, will make your work days productive and your time at home sacred once more.

If you have made this transition from home office to shared office, we would love to hear about it! What prompted you to take the plunge? Has it been worth it? Please comment below and share your experiences with those who might be a little less sure!
