Reasons Why Your Customers Are Not Opening Your Emails

1. Unclear call to action 
If your readers are unclear about what to do next, you’ve missed your shot to connect with readers and convert them into action-takers. If your emails have high open rates but you aren’t getting any responses, you probably need to work on your call to action. To keep your prospects engaged, you need to make sure your call to action is clear and to the point. It should be a simple request. Avoid adding attachments such as video links, as you do not want to risk redirecting your prospects away and risk losing them. Your last impression should direct your prospect towards moving to the next action step you want them to take.

2. Bad decisions
First impressions matter, so don’t let your readers get caught in a jumbled mess of crazy colours, typos and lack of direction. Always consider your ratio of image to text and double check for any obvious mistakes before you decide to send out your email.

3. Default preheader
Use this opportunity to optimise the preview pane and convince users to open your message. Using the preheader only for a link to the web version is an easy trap to avoid.

4. No list segmentation 
Failing to organise your database and send messages to relevant specific segments is sure to cause your campaigns to miss the mark, and get trapped in the inboxes of the wrong reader. If you target your emails to specific segments you will begin to see higher open and response rates.

5. Email not responsive 
51% of all emails are now opened on a mobile device. Additionally, 70% of consumers immediately disregard an email that doesn’t render properly on their mobile device. Use single line columns, larger fonts and clear and concise messaging. Multi columns do not have to be off limits for mobile, but keep them to a minimum as needed. Always make sure you test you email thoroughly on all devices before you press send.

6. No personalisation
Personalise you emails to stay out of the email blast black hole. Personalised subject lines see open rates about 20% higher.
